There is a tremendous amount of business history right here in Adams County, and today the Class of 2027 got to explore one of its most iconic examples!
We toured the historic Dick Brothers Brewery with Bret Austin, who walked our students through the history of the brewery, the family who founded it, and the incredible operation they built.
What made this tour especially interesting was learning how the business evolved over time. From modernization and changing technology to navigating major historical events like Prohibition and the World Wars, the brewery faced challenges that forced its owners to rethink their strategies, adapt their operations, and make difficult decisions about the future of the business.
For our students, it was an opportunity to see that the challenges entrepreneurs face today aren’t entirely new. Markets change, regulations shift, technology advances, and circumstances beyond our control can completely change how a business operates. The ability to adapt has always been an essential part of entrepreneurship.
We also got to explore the incredible underground network of tunnels that helped make the brewery’s operations possible. We intentionally didn’t take many pictures because this is one of those places you really need to experience for yourself! If you haven’t toured the historic Dick Brothers Brewery, we highly encourage you to do so.
A huge thank you to Bret for sharing his knowledge and helping our class better understand such an important piece of our community’s entrepreneurial history!
