There are a lot of careers our students hear about growing up. Respiratory therapy probably isn’t always one of them, but today Kerby and Teddie from Blessing Hospital’s Respiratory Therapy Department gave the Class of 2027 a look inside a profession that plays a critical role in patient care.
Kerby and Teddie shared their very different paths into respiratory therapy and how each ultimately found a career they love. They helped the class understand just how broad the work can be, from managing ventilators and assisting with bronchoscopies to breathing treatments and therapies throughout the hospital. The class even got a little hands-on experience learning about the lungs and practicing intubation.
They also shared some of the unique opportunities available through careers in healthcare. Students can pursue an in-demand profession while potentially taking advantage of programs that help cover the cost of their education, creating an opportunity to graduate with a career waiting for them, potentially little to no student debt, and even sign-on bonuses as they enter the workforce.
One of the great parts of CEO is exposing students to careers, industries, and opportunities they may never have considered before. Entrepreneurship is a big part of what we do, but so is helping students better understand the opportunities available right here in our community.
